About the Role
SUMMARY: Assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or material to construction projects. • Load, transport, unload and assist in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks and sheaves based on load weight and size. • Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings and gin‑pole booms using bolts and clamps. • Secure loads with grappling devices (loops, wires, ropes, chains) to crane hooks. • Direct crane operators or hoisting engineers using hand signals, loudspeaker, two‑way radio or telephone to ensure safety. • Set up braces and rig hoisting equipment with hand tools and power wrenches. • Tie various knots as required. • Assemble and disassemble cranes. • Splice rope and wire cables to fabricate or repair slings or tackle. • Direct workers handling hoisting of machinery and equipment onto or off ships, railcars, trucks or cars. • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment. • Observe all safety rules. • Coordinate hand and foot movements according to visual signals, maintaining accuracy. • Rate information using measurable standards. • Interpret flat drawings or diagrams to visualize solid objects. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select appropriate tools. • Compare size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.

QUALIFICATIONS: May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with prior experience in the field or a related area. The role relies on commonly‑used concepts, practices, and procedures, following instructions and pre‑established guidelines under immediate supervision, reporting to a supervisor or manager. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The job includes standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lb, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering activities, with frequency levels indicated by symbols.
