About the Role

The senior project manager is responsible for leading projects to agreed outcomes, meeting time, cost and quality requirements while managing internal fee expectations, risk mitigation and change management. Collaboration with clients, design teams, consultants and contractors ensures successful delivery aligned with expectations. Key responsibilities include managing programme budgets and risks throughout the lifecycle, ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental legislation and CDM regulations, and providing regular performance updates. The role also covers early‑phase development, optioneering and consenting, design‑stage review for SHESQ and deliverability, and supporting tendering with appropriate contracting strategies. Further duties involve overseeing design, safety‑by‑design, commissioning, scheme closure and post‑completion activities, acting as the primary interface between internal and external stakeholders, and coordinating contractors and multidisciplinary teams to minimise disruption. The manager will also handle complex third‑party issues, chair progress and cost review meetings, and lead, coach and influence team members. • Lead and deliver senior electricity transmission projects, meeting time, cost, quality and safety targets. • Manage pre‑construction phases including optioneering, development and consenting. • Oversee programme budgets, risks and compliance with health, safety, environmental and CDM regulations. • Provide regular performance updates covering milestones, risks, opportunities and financials. • Guide design‑stage reviews for SHESQ, deliverability and safety performance. • Support tendering and develop contracting strategies with procurement teams. • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors and stakeholders to minimise disruption. • Resolve complex third‑party issues such as land, consents, public relations and community engagement. • Chair monthly progress and cost review meetings and attend weekly site meetings. • Lead, coach and influence team members to achieve best outcomes.

What You Bring

We are recruiting a senior project manager for a strategic client in the energy sector, supporting a major electricity transmission project. Required experience includes electrical infrastructure projects, knowledge of relevant legislation, HS&E management systems, environmental control, technical documentation, NEC contract administration, risk management, hand‑over records and formal hazard review processes, as well as procurement for complex projects. Candidates must hold a degree with at least five years (or an HNC/HND with seven years) of regulated industry experience, be members of a relevant professional institute, and possess recognised health, safety and environmental qualifications such as NEBOSH, SMSTS or IOSH. Mace welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and will consider flexible, part‑time or hybrid working arrangements where suitable. • Demonstrated experience on electrical infrastructure projects within regulated sectors. • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, HS&E management systems and environmental control. • Expertise in NEC contract administration and formal hazard review processes. • Ability to manage risk, schedule and cost analysis and produce hand‑over records. • Familiarity with procurement processes for complex projects. • Degree (or HNC/HND) with 5+ years (or 7+ years) regulated industry experience. • Membership of a relevant professional institute. • Recognised health, safety and environmental qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, SMSTS, IOSH).
