About the Role
The Mechanical Engineer I role is a hands‑on, full‑time position reporting to the Director of East Coast Engineering. The engineer will work Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm, with occasional overtime, and may travel up to 20 % for site support. Responsibilities include equipment design, sizing, datasheet creation, hydraulic analysis, 3D modeling, construction drawing review and on‑site construction support. • Design and size mechanical equipment and piping systems. • Produce equipment datasheets, specifications, and Bills of Material. • Perform hydraulic calculations and pump sizing analyses. • Create and review 3D models, isometric drawings, and construction documents. • Conduct site walk‑downs, respond to RFIs, and support contractors during construction. • Develop stress analysis models in CAESAR II and generate analysis reports. • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineers and designers on project deliverables. • Review contractor bid packages and evaluate equipment, pipe, and valve selections. • Maintain accurate line and equipment lists for project cost and bid packages.

The work environment is a typical office with frequent distractions from staff, clients and vendors, while occasional site walk‑downs require standing, walking and lifting up to 25 lb. The position demands regular use of hands, frequent verbal communication, and occasional visual tasks such as close and depth perception. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required. ZAP expects strong written and verbal communication, problem‑solving ability, self‑direction and basic leadership experience.
