About the Role
The Hazardous Materials & Occupational Hygiene Technician role supports clients across the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, and Southwestern Ontario, helping manage hazardous materials, protect worker health, and create safer buildings and workplaces. This hybrid position involves flexible office work and frequent travel to diverse project sites across Ontario. Key responsibilities include conducting field assessments, performing building surveys for asbestos, lead and mould, overseeing hazardous‑material remediation, carrying out occupational exposure and indoor air quality investigations, analyzing airborne fibre samples, and preparing clear technical reports. The technician also builds positive relationships with clients and multidisciplinary teams while promoting a strong health and safety culture. • Conduct field assessments and monitoring programs to ensure regulatory compliance. • Perform building surveys for asbestos, lead, mould and collect representative samples. • Oversee hazardous‑material remediation, including contractor monitoring and air sampling. • Conduct occupational exposure assessments for chemical, biological and physical hazards. • Investigate indoor air quality and drinking‑water quality, documenting conditions. • Analyze airborne fibre samples and report results for asbestos and related programs. • Prepare clear technical reports and data summaries for project managers and clients. • Build and maintain professional relationships with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a college diploma or university degree in occupational hygiene, environmental science, engineering or a related field, and have consulting experience or equivalent knowledge. A solid understanding of Ontario occupational health, safety, construction and environmental legislation, experience with hazardous‑material surveys, strong Excel and data‑management skills, and the ability to safely use hand tools and lift up to 50 lb are required. The role demands self‑motivation, organization, independent field work, teamwork, frequent travel, a personal vehicle, a clean driver’s abstract, and eligibility for Federal Reliability or Secret clearance. • Hold a college diploma or university degree in occupational hygiene, environmental science or engineering. • Possess consulting experience or equivalent knowledge in occupational hygiene or related fields. • Understand Ontario occupational health, safety, construction and environmental legislation. • Experience with hazardous‑material surveys and, ideally, fibre‑sample analysis. • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and digital data‑management tools. • Ability to safely use hand tools, ladders and lift up to 50 lb. • Self‑motivated, organized and able to work independently in the field. • Willing to travel frequently across Ontario, with personal vehicle and eligibility for security clearance.
