About the Role

The Leadman provides leadership, instruction, and guidance to other craft workers in the work crew, assisting the Foreman while functioning as a journeyman. They work under immediate supervision and rely on established guidelines. The role involves laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems, supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and production processing systems. These systems support steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and processing operations. • Select type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications. • Inspect worksite to determine presence of obstructions. • Plan sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers. • Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine. • Thread pipe using threading machine. • Bend pipe by hand or with pipe‑bending tools and machine. • Mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe. • Assemble and install a variety of metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, using threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools. • Secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools. • Install and maintain refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping. • Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure and observing gauges. • Weld pipe supports to structural steel members. • Observe production machines to detect malfunctions and operate machinery to verify repair. • Load, transport, and unload material, tools, equipment, and supplies. • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing material and work pieces during installation. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. • Use respiratory protection as required. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules; perform other duties as required. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Compare and discern differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.

What You Bring

Candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience. They must possess knowledge of industry concepts and work under immediate supervision, relying on established guidelines. The position does not require independent judgment and reports to a supervisor or manager. The job requires standing, walking, and occasional sitting, with the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb and push/pull with a 70 ft‑lb force. Workers must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and finger tools, with varying frequencies of occurrence.
