About the Role

• Manage heritage and cultural resources, preserving histories for the future. • Deliver quality cultural resource compliance for diverse clients. • Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other tools to determine project locations and archaeological sensitivities. • Prepare and assist with cultural resources survey reports, data entry, impact assessments, and permitting activities (e.g., CEQA, NEPA). • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for data integrity, documentation, training, monitoring, reporting, and record retention. • Identify risks and provide impact assessments, contributing to threat mitigation and permitting to minimize impacts on cultural and scientific resources. • Oversee and collaborate with cross‑functional teams in project execution. • Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients. • Exercise ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

What You Bring

WSP is searching for an experienced Senior Professional Archaeologist to work across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, with locations including Houston, San Antonio, Dallas/Fort Worth, El Paso, New Orleans, Tulsa, and Shreveport. The role blends technical writing, research, and supervision of fieldwork, and is part of the Heritage and Cultural Resources Earth & Environment Team. It is a writing‑ and compliance‑focused position (approximately two‑thirds report writing and research, one‑third field support) suited to candidates who prefer detail‑oriented work over full‑time field supervision. • Master’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, historic preservation, or related field. • Minimum 5 years of post‑education experience in Section 106/110 compliance. • At least 10 years of CRM archaeology experience, preferably in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, or Arkansas. • Qualified as Principal Investigator on state and federal permits in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. • Strong technical writing skills and experience producing reports, impact evaluations, siting reports, and permit applications. • Knowledge of state and federal protection regulations, preservation guidelines, and consulting processes. • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for scientific and non‑scientific audiences. • Proven self‑leadership, attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in dynamic environments. • Ability to guide junior team members while maintaining QA/QC standards. • Proficiency with business writing, office automation, and relevant software tools. • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to interpret data and achieve project objectives. • Willingness to travel as project requirements dictate; occasional travel required. • Ability to work schedules beyond the typical workweek when needed. • Must pass WSP Motor Vehicle screening; relocation assistance not provided. • Preferred: publications, presentations, and regional experience demonstrating expertise. • Preferred: active participation in professional practice organizations. • Preferred: knowledge of field GPS equipment, including ArcGIS FieldMaps. • Additional: ability to travel for site investigations and perform essential duties; reasonable accommodations available.
