About the Role

Key duties include acting as a technical expert—preferably with hydro‑ecology expertise—in delivering robust assessments and high‑quality reporting, leading day‑to‑day client and regulator engagement, supporting the development and delivery of the WINEP pipeline, and generating innovative bid proposals. You will also manage projects financially, control change, ensure quality assurance and champion a ‘safety first’ attitude. • Provide technical expertise, especially hydro‑ecology, for WINEP water resources projects. • Lead client and regulator engagement throughout investigations. • Support development and delivery of the WINEP project pipeline and expand technical capabilities. • Create high‑quality bid proposals and innovative solutions for clients. • Manage project finances, change control and quality assurance. • Promote and uphold a ‘safety first’ culture in line with WSP policies. • Assess impacts of water abstraction and deliver hydro‑ecology insights.

What You Bring

We are seeking experienced, motivated individuals to join our water team on high‑profile WINEP water resources projects, supporting water companies in England and Wales. The role sits in the Catchment Science team of our Sustainable Water Management Consulting group and works alongside hydro‑geologists, hydrologists, geomorphologists and hydro‑ecologists. We value self‑starters who can work independently and collaboratively, have excellent communication skills, and can combine their own technical knowledge with collective expertise to solve new challenges. Opportunities exist to work across related disciplines such as water resources, flood risk, biodiversity net gain and environmental impact assessment, allowing you to shape the role and seniority to suit your background. The ideal candidate demonstrates technical leadership of WINEP investigations or similar, a clear understanding of regulatory requirements (especially the Water Framework Directive), experience assessing abstraction impacts, strong interpersonal and commercial awareness, and excellent report‑writing and review skills. A relevant MSc or BSc (e.g., earth sciences, environmental science, geography, aquatic ecology) is required, and you should be working towards or have achieved chartership with a professional body. • Demonstrate technical leadership of water resources investigations and multidisciplinary team coordination. • Apply strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, including the Water Framework Directive. • Exhibit excellent interpersonal, commercial and report‑writing skills. • Hold an MSc or BSc in a relevant discipline and work towards/hold chartered status.
