About the Role

Inspectors will monitor on‑site construction for compliance with plans, contracts, specifications, and codes, perform materials testing and basic surveying, and document daily activities, photos, and inspection reports using the client’s electronic management system. They will also prepare monthly estimates and sketches, coordinate with agency and contractor personnel, and assist in training and scheduling of junior staff while exercising independent judgment within delegated authority. • Perform on‑site roadway and structure inspections for compliance with plans, specifications, and codes. • Conduct required materials testing and basic surveying to verify line, grade, and dimensions. • Document daily work activities, photos, and inspection reports using the client’s electronic project management system. • Prepare monthly project estimates, sketches, and engineering calculations. • Guide and train junior inspectors and support scheduling coordination. • Communicate professionally with agency, contractor, and internal teams; provide recommendations and escalate issues as needed. • Ensure highway work zones and traffic control setups meet current standards. • Complete administrative tasks such as daily timesheets, expense reports, and mileage logs. • Maintain required certifications and obtain additional training as required by the role. • Meet physical demands of field work, including bending, climbing, and working in varied weather conditions.

What You Bring

MBP is hiring NCDOT Transportation Inspectors (Levels 1‑4) to support roadway and structure construction projects. Candidates will be placed in a level based on experience, ranging from entry‑level inspection to lead project inspection with supervision of junior technicians. Applicants must have construction inspection experience—minimum four years for Level II, five years for Level III, and seven years for Level IV—and a high‑school diploma or GED. OSHA 10‑hour or 30‑hour certification is required (or obtainable within three months), along with basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry skills and familiarity with road/bridge construction concepts. Required skills include reading plans and specifications, proficient use of Microsoft Office and client‑specific software (SharePoint, HICAMS, OnTrack), effective verbal and written communication, and competent operation of surveying tools. The role demands physical abilities such as bending, climbing, and working outdoors in varied weather, a valid driver’s license with a good record, and the ability to travel regularly. • Maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and travel regularly to project sites. • Possess at least 4 years (Level II), 5 years (Level III), or 7 years (Level IV) relevant inspection experience.
