About the Role
The Specification Writer will act as a technical liaison for design teams, guiding product selection and preparing comprehensive construction specifications throughout all project phases. This role requires ensuring that every specification aligns with applicable codes, standards, and ECS’s internal guidelines while maintaining clear communication with architects, engineers, and consultants. Key duties include reviewing drawings and project information to draft and edit specifications, coordinating procurement and contracting sections, and overseeing consultant technical specifications for consistency with firm standards. The writer will also conduct product research, support material selections, assist construction administration with submittal reviews and substitution evaluations, and manage multiple projects to meet schedule milestones. Regular participation in client meetings and project discussions is expected. • Guide design teams on product selection and design considerations • Write and edit construction specifications for all project phases • Ensure compliance with codes, standards, institutional guidelines, and firm standards • Coordinate procurement and contracting requirements, including Division 01 General Requirements • Review and align consultant technical specifications with project manuals • Conduct product research to support material and product selections • Assist construction administration with submittal reviews and substitution evaluations • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadline milestones • Participate in client project discussions and follow‑up reporting • Maintain awareness of evolving building technologies, code changes, and industry trends

What You Bring
Candidates should hold at least a high school diploma, with a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Building Science, or a related discipline preferred. A minimum of six years’ experience in architectural or commercial interiors projects and three years in writing, editing, and developing AIA MasterFormat specifications are required. Membership in the Construction Specifications Institute is essential, and certifications such as CDT, CCS, LEED AP, or professional licensure are advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Acrobat, and familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit are also desired. • Hold at least a high school diploma; bachelor's degree preferred • Minimum 6 years architectural/commercial interiors experience and 3 years specification writing • Membership in CSI; CDT certification preferred; CCS, LEED AP, or professional licensure a plus • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam Revu, Adobe Acrobat; AutoCAD/Revit knowledge advantageous
