About the Role
Key duties include hydraulic modeling, drainage design, inlet spacing, pipe sizing, culvert analysis, bridge scour assessment, erosion and sediment control, plan preparation, special provisions, estimating, permitting, and coordination with project and stakeholder teams. • Lead hydrology and hydraulics efforts on highways, roads, transit, rail, and airport projects. • Conduct drainage design, hydraulic modeling, inlet spacing, pipe sizing, and culvert analysis. • Perform bridge scour assessments, erosion and sediment control, and prepare design plans and special provisions. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project and stakeholder teams throughout all design phases.

What You Bring
The engineer will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians on projects from concept through final design. A strong grasp of IDOT and local agency drainage policies is required, as is proficiency with HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, HY8, XPSWMM, GEOPAK Drainage, and MicroStation. Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field and possess at least four years of drainage and site‑civil experience on DOT transportation projects. Experience in storm‑water system design, detention facilities, bridges, and culverts is essential. Preferred qualifications are an Illinois Professional Engineer license, Certified Floodplain Manager designation, and expertise with CADD tools such as MicroStation, Civil3D, or InRoads. Applicants should also have experience preparing storm‑water management reports, IDOT location drainage studies, IL‑Tollway concept reports, and SWPPP, as well as demonstrated leadership of design tasks and junior staff.
