About the Role

The role works closely with corporate and Market Area senior leadership to understand and align safety goals at both levels. This includes overseeing the Drive Cam system, managing serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention programs, and ensuring effective safety communications in coordination with the EH&S team. Key responsibilities include incident management, district safety plan development, hazardous energy control oversight, and regulation compliance (DOT, OSHA, etc.). The manager also handles facility safety compliance, safety recognition programs, employee health initiatives, PPE procurement, and the development and coaching of safety personnel based on observations and data analysis. Supervisory duties involve direct management of two full‑time Safety Coordinators, providing guidance and performance oversight. • Partner with corporate and Market Area leaders to align safety strategies and goals. • Oversee Drive Cam system analysis, reporting, coaching, and ride‑alongs with site managers and drivers. • Lead Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention, including risk identification and protection validation studies. • Coordinate safety communications and deploy awareness messaging based on trend analysis. • Manage incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and reporting in the EH&S portal. • Develop and maintain District Specific Safety Plans with site leadership. • Direct the Hazardous Energy Control Program and train personnel on HECP protocols. • Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and other federal/state regulations. • Conduct safety audits of facilities, fire protection systems, and equipment installations. • Administer the Safety Recognition Program and evaluate its effectiveness. • Oversee employee health programs, including medical monitoring and industrial hygiene. • Serve as subject‑matter expert for PPE policies and procurement across the Market Area. • Coach and develop safety specialists, leaders, and frontline staff using data‑driven observations. • Supervise two full‑time Safety Coordinators. • Travel throughout San Diego to Fresno counties to support multiple sites.

What You Bring

Qualifications require a bachelor's degree (or high school diploma with four years of relevant experience) and five to seven years of safety or operations management experience. Preferred certifications include Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Professional Engineer, Qualified Environmental Professional, Registered Environmental Manager, and Certified Hazardous Materials Manager. The work environment includes office, shop, landfill, MRF, and transfer station settings, with occasional physical tasks such as handling objects under 30 pounds and exposure to typical occupational hazards and weather conditions. Travel throughout the market area is required. Candidates must possess a REAL ID or TSA‑approved alternative for travel or access to federal property, and must be willing to obtain one if necessary. • Require a bachelor's degree (or high school diploma with four years of experience) and 5–7 years in safety or operations management. • Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, PE, QEP, REM, CHMM. • Strong knowledge of DOT/OSHA regulations, communication, and public speaking required.

Benefits

Compensation is a hybrid base salary ranging from $111,205 to $144,440, supplemented by incentive pay.
