About the Role
• Operate and monitor hydro generating systems and 69 kV transmission using SCADA and related energy‑management tools. • Maintain voltage levels within normal and emergency limits and assist the Transmission System Operator in bulk power operations. • Dispatch hydro generation according to daily schedules or Balancing Authority directives and manage head‑pond levels via telemetered equipment. • Record accurate operational logs and oversee tactical deployment of routine and emergency‑response crews. • Communicate outage information promptly to NSPI customers, DCC and other key stakeholders. • Interpret SCADA alarms, load‑flow, contingency analysis, AGC and other system indicators to ensure reliable service. • Apply NSPI operating criteria, emergency response plans, and Standard Protection Code (SPC) procedures, including issuing hold‑offs and isolation permits. • Approve and coordinate switching of transmission and generation equipment, and direct restoration activities during forced outages. • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety, environmental permits, and Emera’s alcohol‑and‑drug policy.

What You Bring
• Complete competency‑based training, including on‑shift self‑study and external meetings, to maintain operational proficiency. • Possess at least three years of electric‑utility experience, with prior system‑operator or NERC certification preferred. • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, leadership, problem‑resolution and decision‑making skills, and the ability to work independently under stress. • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent; candidates with a technologist‑level degree or related electrical trade experience may be considered as apprentice operators.
