About the Role

As Millwright Crew Chief, you will provide leadership and supervision while directing the work activities of the Marine Maintenance Millwright group, which serves the Seaport and Real Estate Divisions. You will supervise the Marine Maintenance Millwright and Pile Driver team, performing welding, metal fabrication, and harbor maintenance tasks. You will receive work orders via telephone, email, or a job‑tracking system and develop plans that address materials, equipment, PPE, and staffing. You will prepare and review site‑specific safety plans, create job documentation, and maintain inspection logs, daily reports, and material testing records for complex projects. Ensuring compliance with Port of Seattle rules, construction safety regulations, and hazmat requirements is essential, as is investigating and reporting injuries, incidents, and close calls. You will also assess environmental risks and ensure contractors meet training and compliance standards. • Lead and supervise the Marine Maintenance Millwright crew and Pile Driver team. • Plan and execute work orders, including material, equipment, PPE, and staffing needs. • Develop and review site‑specific safety plans and maintain project documentation (inspection logs, daily reports, material testing). • Ensure compliance with Port of Seattle policies, construction safety regulations, and hazmat rules. • Investigate and report injuries, incidents, and close calls, implementing corrective actions. • Assess environmental risks and monitor construction sites for regulatory compliance. • Perform journey‑level Millwright tasks, working at heights, over water, and in confined spaces.

What You Bring

The role requires strong technical knowledge of metal fabrication, repair, and replacement techniques, along with a solid mechanical aptitude. You must also be capable of performing all journey‑level Millwright duties, including work at heights, over water, and in confined spaces. Required experience includes a WABO SMAW certification (E7018), five years of journey‑level millwright welding experience, and two years in a supervisory role. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; preferred qualifications include journey‑level millwright experience in maintenance/construction, layout and estimating skills, and a WABO FCAW certification (E71T‑8).
