About the Role

The Senior ITS/Traffic Engineer will join AECOM’s New Jersey team to lead advanced transportation solutions. Based in Bloomfield, Piscataway, or New York City, the role involves designing, implementing, and managing ITS and traffic signal systems that enhance mobility, safety, and efficiency. The engineer will work closely with project managers, agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery. • Lead planning, design, and deployment of ITS, traffic signal systems, and connected vehicle technologies. • Develop traffic engineering studies such as signal optimization, corridor analysis, and congestion management strategies. • Design traffic signals, roadway signage, pavement markings, and intersection improvements per NJTA, NJDOT, and MUTCD standards. • Oversee integration of ITS hardware/software, traffic management centers, and emerging technologies. • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates. • Collaborate with agencies including NJDOT, NJTA, MPOs, and local municipalities on statewide and regional projects. • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance. • Ensure compliance with industry standards (MUTCD, NTCIP, AASHTO) and applicable regulations. • Participate in professional organizations/associations and attend related events. • Travel to the Piscataway office or client locations for meetings.

What You Bring

This position is hybrid, with office work in Piscataway, NJ and travel to client sites across New Jersey. The role requires a valid US driver’s license and the ability to attend meetings at agency offices or client locations. Relocation assistance and sponsorship for employment authorization are not offered. • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. • Minimum of 6 years of traffic modeling, signal design, and traffic engineering experience (or equivalent). • Proficiency with traffic analysis software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS) and CAD/MicroStation. • Valid US driver’s license. • 8+ years of traffic engineering and ITS project experience (preferred). • NJ Professional Engineer (PE) license required; PTOE certification a plus. • Advanced MicroStation skills (highly preferred). • Experience designing signals, signage, and pavement markings following NJTA, NJDOT, and MUTCD standards. • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
