About the Role
Machinists will install, align, and test main propulsion plant machinery and support systems, overhaul valves, pumps, turbines, and heat exchangers, and perform boiler operations, hydrostatic testing, and lube oil flushing. They must read complex blueprints and schematics, operate lathes, boring bars, and portable milling/drilling machines, and use precision measuring tools for alignment and fit. Additional duties include installing and testing anchor windlass, hydraulic systems, steam plant, AC & refrigeration units, and conducting system grooming to shipyard cleanliness standards while complying with OSHA and shipyard safety regulations. Support for systems such as condenser tubes, winches, ballast tanks, arresting gear, and diesel systems may also be required. • Install, align, and test propulsion plant machinery and support systems. • Overhaul valves, pumps, turbines, heat exchangers; perform boiler operations and hydrostatic testing. • Read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. • Operate machine tools (lathes, boring bars, portable milling/drilling) and precision measuring instruments. • Install and test anchor windlass, hydraulic, steam plant, AC/refrigeration, and distilling systems. • Ensure system cleanliness and compliance with OSHA and shipyard safety regulations.

What You Bring
Candidates need a DOD clearance, at least four years of commercial/naval experience as a First‑Class Machinist, strong knowledge of mechanical, steam, and hydraulic systems, and familiarity with OSHA standards. Ability to work from technical drawings and use precision measuring tools is essential. • Minimum 4 years commercial/naval experience as a First‑Class Machinist with DOD clearance. • Strong knowledge of mechanical, steam, hydraulic systems and precision alignment procedures. • Preferred: experience with ALRE systems, steam/sea valves, boiler tube replacement, turbine installation, optical alignment, and shipboard HVAC.
