Project Engineer - Civil Engineering
Lead civil engineering tasks for rail projects, handling coordination, safety and client liaison.

About the Role
• Coordinate work with other contractors. • Liaise with route engineers. • Participate in engineering and development assurance to deliver affordable, safe, and environmentally responsible schemes that meet time, cost, and quality targets. • Conduct engineering assurance, considering safety, reliability, maintainability, constructability and whole‑life issues. • Review compliance with standards and apply risk identification methods (e.g., HAZOP, QRA) to evaluate options. • Develop and assure the selected design option and the full engineering assurance package for detailed design commencement. • Perform engineering verifications and manage interfaces with other disciplines. • Produce and approve method statements for site works and surveys. • Ensure contractors’ design, construction and specialist personnel competence (e.g., CEM/CRE appointments).

What You Bring
Position status: We are growing our team in 2025 and would be interested to speak to experienced Rail Project Engineer • Civils with construction and project management experience. Please get in touch if you would like to hear about working with Mace. You will be required to work in the office in Manchester three days per week. • Chartered engineer status or relevant engineering degree (BSc/BEng or equivalent) with at least three years of relevant experience. • Ability to undertake the role of Project Engineer (PE). • Sound understanding of CDM 2015 and CSM 2013 regulations, especially asset‑protection requirements on third‑party, major and minor projects. • Knowledge of Network Rail’s handback, track support zone, and quality management processes. • Experience working directly with Network Rail.
