About the Role

The role of Geomorphologist and River Restoration Project Lead is based in the UK Water team and involves planning, managing, modelling, and designing sustainable geomorphology and river restoration schemes. The successful candidate will lead high‑quality project delivery, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and engage directly with clients and stakeholders. Working nationally and internationally, the team collaborates with regulators, water companies, wildlife trusts, estate managers, and developers across a range of river and wetland projects. Responsibilities include technical design, contractor supervision, compliance with CDM Regulations, and delivering river basin‑scale restoration programmes. The specialist geomorphology group comprises 15 experts who work closely with colleagues handling surface water, groundwater, estuaries, lakes, and marine environments. As an experienced geomorphologist, you will coach junior staff, act as a technical mentor, and ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are embedded throughout the project lifecycle. • Re‑meandering detailed design and construction supervision for the River Breamish (River Till‑Tweed SSSI and SAC, Northumberland) • Re‑meandering detailed design and construction supervision for the River Eye SSSI, Leicestershire • Re‑meandering modelling and design for the River Cocker, Cumbria • Programmes of WFD, BNG and MoRPh surveys for river restoration across the UK and Ireland • Hydraulic and sediment‑transport modelling • Coordinating multidisciplinary teams on river restoration planning and delivery

What You Bring

Candidates should hold a degree in geography, physical sciences, engineering or a related discipline, have proven river restoration experience, and demonstrate strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
