About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer at HDR will design and develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for a variety of commercial and industrial buildings. Responsibilities include load calculations, equipment selection, system layout design, and creating detailed construction documents and drawings using Revit and AutoCAD. The role also involves energy modeling and code compliance analysis with EnergyPro, coordinating meetings and reviews with governing agencies, conducting on‑site work sessions, and collaborating closely with architects, structural engineers, and other disciplines throughout all project phases. • Design HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial and industrial projects. • Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and system layout design. • Design domestic water, sanitary drainage, stormwater, and natural gas piping systems. • Conduct energy modeling and code compliance analysis using EnergyPro. • Produce detailed construction documents and drawings with Revit and AutoCAD. • Lead meetings and coordinate code compliance reviews with governing agencies. • Conduct on‑site work sessions with project managers and multidisciplinary teams. • Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other disciplines throughout project phases. • Write and edit mechanical specifications and manage addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders. • Provide construction contract administration and QA/QC oversight of mechanical staff.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field and have at least four years of relevant experience, preferably with an architectural/engineering or consulting firm. Required experience includes mechanical design for commercial or institutional buildings, HVAC and plumbing system analysis, and proficiency with Trane Trace (or similar software), Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and EnergyPro. A Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. jurisdiction is mandatory, and all hires are subject to background checks and pre‑employment drug testing. • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) and minimum 4 years’ experience. • Experience in an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm. • Proficiency in mechanical design for commercial/institutional buildings, HVAC and plumbing analysis. • Skilled in Trane Trace (or similar), Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and EnergyPro. • Hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. jurisdiction. • Ability to pass background checks and pre‑employment drug testing.
