Key responsibilities include cost control, financial management, coordination with preconstruction on estimates and schedules, contract administration, subcontractor management, project buyout, quality planning, and on‑site duties for smaller scopes. The Assistant Project Manager also provides mentorship, career development, and performance guidance to engineers and field staff. • Perform cost control and financial management. • Collaborate with Preconstruction on project estimates and schedules. • Coordinate scopes of work across disciplines. • Review and compile pay applications, change requests, and other financial documentation. • Partner with the Project Manager or Construction Executive on project decisions. • Draft client proposals and manage contract administration. • Award subcontracts and oversee subcontractor performance. • Provide direction to the project team for safe and timely project completion. • Act as liaison for project engineers, mentor, and coach team members. • Assign jobs and manage career development for staff. • Guide Field Engineers and Project Engineers in their responsibilities. • Manage subcontractors and suppliers, overseeing budgets and making recommendations. • Lead project buyout negotiations with subcontractors and trade partners. • Facilitate and lead coordination meetings with subcontractors. • Perform on‑site Project Manager duties on small‑scope projects. • Implement a quality plan meeting customer performance criteria. • Build relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels. • Lead by example, providing effective coaching, feedback, and performance management.

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager (Project Controls) who thrives in a dynamic environment and can collaborate across all levels of the organization. The role supports the Project Manager from bid preparation through final client acceptance, while leading and mentoring project team members to anticipate challenges, identify opportunities, and develop practical solutions. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience) and have at least five years of relevant experience. They should demonstrate strong attention to detail, a basic understanding of construction law, intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and project‑management tools, a professional attitude, and a valid driver’s license. • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience. • Minimum five years of related experience. • Proven ability to assist with responsibilities for complex projects. • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize multiple tasks. • Basic understanding of construction law and business practices. • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management, and relevant web applications. • Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills. • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies. • Valid driver’s license.

The position offers a base salary ranging from $102,000 to $137,700 (higher in select locations) and eligibility for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
