About the Role

This maintenance role involves applying, removing, and repairing insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, and other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, storage tanks, and vessels to control noise and maintain temperatures. • Read and interpret blueprints, instructions, and documentation to plan work. • Select and calculate required insulation materials (fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, cork, urethane) based on heat retention, location, surface, shape, and equipment use. • Transport materials and equipment to the work site and set up the work area. • Measure, cut, and shape insulation using hand tools to fit surfaces and around obstructions. • Apply, cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces and access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement, or asphalt mastic. • Install protective sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws to guard against weather and damage. • Prepare surfaces by applying adhesives, cement, or asphalt and securing with metal pins. • Secure insulation with preformed covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape using staple guns, trowels, paintbrushes, or caulking guns. • Follow hazardous waste handling guidelines and safety procedures, including removal or sealing of asbestos insulation. • Complete records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform cleanup and housekeeping. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, wearing required personal protective equipment and performing other duties as assigned. • Work to precise accuracy standards. • Use shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan tasks and select appropriate tools. • Compare sizes, shapes, and forms of lines, figures, and objects. • Visualize three‑dimensional objects from plans and drawings. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
