About the Role

The HVAC / Mechanical Technician role provides advanced expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and delivering preventative maintenance on industrial and commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment. The position operates within the stringent requirements of a Life Science environment where precision, compliance and safety are paramount, and serves as a liaison among vendors, facilities staff, finance teams and clients. Day‑to‑day duties include diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heating, ventilation, air‑conditioning, refrigeration, pumps, fans, kitchen equipment and various plumbing fixtures. You will use the building automation system and the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track conditions, schedule preventive maintenance, document work and communicate with customers. The role also involves coaching lower‑level technicians, creating and updating site operation procedures, and recommending reliability improvements. • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair HVAC, refrigeration, and related mechanical equipment. • Perform preventive maintenance using CMMS and adhere to code and compliance standards. • Utilize building automation systems to monitor conditions, document work, and communicate with stakeholders. • Coach lower‑level technicians and develop site operation procedures to improve reliability. • Manage work orders, coordinate with vendors, finance, and facility teams, and provide customer feedback. • Ensure safety compliance, including lockout/tagout procedures and proper PPE usage. • Respond to after‑hours emergencies and address plumbing, electrical, roofing, and carpentry issues. • Maintain accurate records and drive continuous improvement in maintenance methods.

What You Bring

Required qualifications are at least two years of commercial HVAC maintenance experience, a high school diploma or GED, and an EPA 608 refrigerant handling certification (or equivalent). Strong organizational, time‑management, and customer‑service skills are essential, as is the ability to read repair manuals, specifications, drawings and schematics, and to work safely in controlled Life‑Science settings. Preferred experience includes prior work in Life‑Science or other controlled‑environment facilities, background in facility management, KPI tracking, inventory management and knowledge of emergency response planning and regulatory compliance. The position is located on‑site in San Diego, CA, with a schedule of 7 am‑3:30 pm M‑F (potential for four 10‑hour days), requires the ability to lift up to 50 lb and climb ladders, and does not provide visa sponsorship. • Require at least 2 years of commercial HVAC experience, high school diploma/GED, and EPA 608 certification. • Prefer experience in Life‑Science or controlled‑environment facilities and knowledge of regulatory compliance.
