About the Role

The position provides technical assistance and guidance throughout the due‑diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction phases of utility, industrial, and commercial‑scale projects in both public and private sectors. It also requires generating accurate reports and documentation on materials, installations, components, and construction specifications, while ensuring that deliverables meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. • Provide technical assistance for due‑diligence, permitting, design, and construction of utility projects. • Generate accurate reports and documentation on materials, installations, and specifications. • Perform quality reviews to ensure compliance with industry standards for safety and functionality. • Apply engineering calculations to develop competent distribution system designs. • Uphold ethical decision‑making and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

What You Bring

WSP is initiating a search for an experienced Distribution Engineer for its Pensacola, FL office. The role will involve projects within the Power and Energy sector and offers the chance to join a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves challenges. The successful candidate will apply knowledge of utility electrical system design and operation to develop new designs, use engineering calculations to address project challenges, and perform quality reviews of deliverables. They will also exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct, taking on additional responsibilities as business needs arise. Required qualifications include a BSEE, BSEET, BSME or BSCE from an ABET‑accredited university (preferably with a power option) and at least three years of experience designing and operating overhead and underground distribution lines ranging from 4 kV to 35 kV. Candidates should be familiar with utility standards, joint facilities design, compatible units, and construction package development, have worked closely with an electric utility or co‑op, and be proficient with distribution design software, the National Electric Safety Code, and utility best practices. Strong written and oral communication skills in English and a proven safety record are also essential. Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineering (P.E.) license—or the ability to obtain one within six months—exposure to utility GIS tools such as GE Smallworld, ArcFM, or DDS, and the ability to lead a team of engineers, designers, and drafters. Travel is expected for this role. • Minimum 3 years’ experience designing and operating 4 kV–35 kV overhead/underground distribution lines. • Proficient with distribution design software, NEC, and utility best practices. • Strong written and oral communication skills in English. • Preferred: Professional Engineering license (or attainable within 6 months) and GIS experience (GE Smallworld, ArcFM, DDS). • Ability to lead and direct a team of engineers, designers, and drafters. • Travel expected as part of the role.
