Environmental Technician (Landfill Gas)

About the Role
The Landfill Gas Technician I reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is tasked with operating and maintaining the landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS). The system captures gas from extraction wells, conveys it via piping and fans, and combusts it in a flare, ensuring adherence to state and federal environmental regulations. The technician performs routine operation, preventive maintenance, and safety checks on the GCCS, monitors system performance, manages data collection, and responds to on‑call incidents to keep the system running efficiently. Work is performed both inside the gas plant and in outdoor field settings, exposing the employee to variable weather conditions and physical demands associated with handling pumps, valves, and piping. • Operate and maintain landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS) efficiently and in compliance with regulations. • Calibrate and manage electronic data collection devices to optimize LFG extraction. • Collect, enter, and interpret data from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring sites. • Implement and follow the GCCS preventative maintenance plan. • Troubleshoot and maintain liquid management system pumps, monitoring liquid levels in containment structures. • Perform wellfield valve and vacuum adjustments, and maintain associated PVC/HDPE piping. • Complete WM Landfill Gas Technician I training and adhere to safety procedures. • Provide on‑call response for GCCS malfunctions. • Work in both indoor gas plant settings and outdoor conditions spanning inclement weather, heat, and humidity.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude. Experience in environmental fieldwork, familiarity with gas collection equipment, and the ability to work independently are highly valued. • Hold a valid, unrestricted driver’s license (required). • Experience with environmental fieldwork, gas collection systems, pumps, blowers, or flare systems (preferred). • Knowledge of PVC or HDPE piping installation and maintenance (preferred). • Proficiency using data logging systems and computer data entry (preferred). • Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting pumps, motors, and pneumatic equipment (preferred). • Ability to work independently in field environments with minimal supervision (preferred).
