About the Role
The Senior Civil Drainage Engineer will work on design‑build and design‑bid‑build road, highway, and rail projects for Caltrans in Southern California, with the position based in Pasadena, Corona, or Irvine and offering a hybrid work model of 1‑2 remote days per week. In this role, you will develop engineering drainage and storm‑water treatment designs, perform hydraulic modeling and calculations, prepare construction details, specifications, and estimates, and ensure the accuracy of technical reports and analytical data. Key responsibilities include defining project scope, budgeting, scheduling, providing technical direction, supervising subordinates, and mentoring CAD designers, drafters, and junior engineers. • Lead design and analysis of drainage and storm‑water systems for transportation projects, including hydraulic modeling and calculations. • Prepare construction details, specifications, estimates, and quantity take‑offs; ensure technical reports are accurate. • Define project scope, budget, and schedule; provide technical direction and supervise multidisciplinary teams. • Review and guide CAD designers, drafters, and junior engineers on deliverables. • Apply Caltrans standards and obtain canal/storm‑water permits as required. • Utilize software such as HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, Bentley InRoads, StormCAD, Aquaveo WMS, and SWMM for modeling. • Work on‑site in Pasadena, Corona, or Irvine with 1‑2 days remote per week.

What You Bring
The position requires a 4‑year civil engineering degree, at least eight years of road and highway drainage experience, a Professional Engineer license, and proficiency with CAD and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC‑RAS, Bentley InRoads, and SWMM; a background with Caltrans projects and permit acquisition is highly desirable. • Hold a PE license with ≥8 years of road/highway drainage design experience, preferably on state DOT projects. • Demonstrate proficiency with CAD and engineering software packages.
