About the Role

The Laborer/Fire Watch will support a new construction site by performing a variety of manual tasks. Duties include moving and retrieving equipment, digging, and standing by to ensure fire safety. All work is performed under the direction of a supervisor or journeyman. • Perform manual tasks: move equipment, dig, retrieve items, and stand by for fire safety • Use a fire extinguisher when necessary • Climb onto structures and scaffolding safely • Follow directions from the supervisor or journeyman • Perform precision adjustments with hand dexterity • Work outdoors in varying weather for up to 12 hours daily

Candidates must meet all physical demands of the role, possess reliable transportation, and be available to work any day as needed. Pre‑employment health and drug screening is required. Essential skills include basic knowledge of hand and power tools, problem‑solving ability, manual dexterity, reading comprehension, teamwork, and effective communication, all aligned with Zachry’s safety values. Preferred applicants are former or ROF‑qualified Zachry employees with basic mechanical knowledge and experience on industrial construction sites. Formal or technical education is also valued. The position requires extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lb, as well as occasional work at heights, ladders, and platforms. Workers must tolerate outdoor conditions—including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind—and may work up to 12 hours per day while wearing required personal protective equipment such as a hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator, safety vest, gloves, and steel‑toe boots.
