About the Role

Assisting with storms or other Company emergencies is a part of all positions at Portland General Electric. • Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections; identify hazards and make necessary repairs to ensure safe operation • Inspect equipment; diagnose electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic problems; test and repair components • Maintain complete and accurate work order records (time, materials, parts, description) • Ensure work meets established standards and timelines • Observe all motor vehicle laws and ensure vehicle safety • Overhaul and rebuild aerial lifts, diggers, and cranes • Inspect and adjust hydraulic and air brakes • Perform metal fabrication and welding • Furnish own hand tools up to 1‑¼ inch • Learn and use the Fleet Focus computer system • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair heavy‑duty truck suspension systems • Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot various aerial equipment

What You Bring

• Hold current welding certification (AWS D1.1 1‑04 & 1‑06); position may be upgraded 3% above pay rate when welding per engineered drawings • Knowledge of hydraulic and air‑brake systems • Knowledge of aerial equipment modification and rebuild techniques • Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, ANSI) • Five years’ experience maintaining, repairing, and overhauling aerial equipment • Effective oral and written communication; ability to work in small groups • Basic knowledge of hazardous waste, MSDS, and oil spill prevention • Ability to work at heights and climb • Must possess and maintain a valid CDL • Ability to read schematics, drawings, and manuals • Working knowledge of computers, email, and Fleet Focus • Required to live within reasonable distance of headquarters

Benefits

The position is Journeyman Garage Mechanic (Certified Welder) in the Avery Body Shop, paid $54.36 per hour, with a schedule of 6:00 am‑4:30 pm (4 × 10‑hour days) Tuesday through Friday. The company recognizes that its public‑service mission requires continuous operation, a responsibility shared by both the Company and the Union. Salary is set at $54.36 per hour, determined by the current collective bargaining agreement and may include step increases based on time in the position.
