About the Role
The setup machinist leads the transition and changeover between production runs on various CNC machines such as mills and lathes, then operates selected machines through the remainder of the run while ensuring quality parts from the work cell. • Set tools in machine locations and perform part changeover, including program retrieval and input. • Establish work offsets (G54, G55, etc.) manually and with probing technology. • Read, understand, and reset CNC machine program codes. • Calculate and input axis coordinates (X, Y, Z) for up to 3‑axis machines or use spindle probe for work offsets. • Apply GD&T results to adjust work offsets. • Determine and run work offsets for 4‑axis single machines. • Manage part‑specific tooling packages of 1‑30 tools per process. • Handle parts with fewer than 10‑50 features.

All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and, due to ITAR requirements, must be U.S. persons (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, political asylee, or refugee). • Minimum two years' experience operating CNC lathes and/or mills (or equivalent education). • At least one year of experience setting up CNC lathes and/or mills. • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. • Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR. • Technical degree in manufacturing, machining, or related field (preferred). • Journeyman’s Toolmaker Certification (preferred). • Experience with CNC or conversational programming (preferred). • Experience operating manual machines (lathes, mills, jig bore, grinders) (preferred). • Familiarity with Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques (Value Stream Mapping, 5S, TPM, etc.) (preferred). • Ability to troubleshoot using quality tools such as statistics, 8D, 5‑Why, and Fishbone diagrams (preferred). • Proficient PC skills (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook) and ability to learn new software. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T. • Basic shop math and demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

Eaton’s IS AER FMC division is seeking a CNC Grind Setup Machinist. The rate for this position is $24‑$29 per hour plus a $2.50 per hour shift differential. Third‑shift hours are 11:00 pm – 7:00 am. Salaries are based on candidate skills, experience, qualifications, and market and business considerations. Eaton Aerospace Group is hiring CNC Setup Machinists for its third‑shift team at the North Charleston, SC facility. Relocation assistance is provided. The pay range is $21‑$25 per hour, and a sign‑on bonus of $3,000 (less applicable withholding) is currently offered.
