About the Role
The Construction Project Manager role sits within the Building Solutions North America business and leads large, sophisticated controls construction projects valued at $1 M or more in the North Carolina market. The manager is accountable for profitable project execution, working with owners, sales managers, installation teams, and vendors to guide strategy, scope, value engineering, and risk assessment. Key duties include acting as the primary on‑site leader, developing and managing project schedules, evaluating contractual scope, and pursuing change orders. The manager prepares cost estimates, negotiates proposals, oversees billing and collections, monitors financial performance, and ensures compliance with legal, safety, and Johnson Controls standards. • Lead $1M+ controls construction projects as the primary on‑site manager. • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and scope compliance. • Prepare cost estimates, negotiate proposals, and pursue change orders to protect profitability. • Oversee billing, collections, and cash‑flow management for assigned projects. • Ensure adherence to legal, safety, and Johnson Controls standards across all work. • Manage subcontractors, material procurement, and coordination with installation teams. • Communicate project status, risks, and financial performance to senior management. • Resolve disputes, negotiate subcontracts, and implement risk mitigation plans. • Maintain long‑term relationships with owners, consultants, and vendors.

What You Bring
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience), at least eight years of direct project‑management experience in building construction, and the expectation to obtain PMI/PMP certification within two years. Candidates must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication, proficiency in project‑management software and MS Office, and the ability to travel to project sites and manage complex, multi‑subcontractor engagements. • Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience). • Minimum 8 years of direct project‑management experience in building construction. • Expected PMI/PMP certification within two years of hire. • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to convey technical concepts to non‑technical audiences. • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Writer, Visio, and project‑management/financial software. • Ability to travel to project sites and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously. • Experience with mechanical retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS, fire and security management systems preferred.
