About the Role
The Operating Engineer (Union, Part‑Time) role at JLL focuses on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all building systems. The position requires deep technical expertise in one craft area—Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations—while maintaining multi‑skilled capabilities in other areas. You will ensure safe, efficient operation in compliance with all government and regulatory requirements and deliver exceptional customer service. • Operate facility systems safely while meeting all regulatory requirements. • Perform maintenance and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, and fire/life‑safety systems. • Clean, inspect, and replace parts to keep HVAC equipment at optimum performance. • Record system readings and adjust equipment to maintain proper operation. • Oversee contractor pricing and verify work quality. • Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries. • Assist management during emergencies such as fire alarms, chemical spills, or hazardous conditions. • Apply thorough knowledge of building systems to improve operating cost efficiency. • Operate and troubleshoot computer‑controlled equipment. • Follow safety policies and safely handle hazardous materials.

What You Bring
The role is based in Chicago, IL, works on‑site, and offers an estimated annual compensation of $42,000. It does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, at least two years of college or trade‑school education, and four years of experience in either the electrician or HVAC/refrigeration trade. A City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License, the ability to lift 80 lb and work at heights, and basic proficiency with Word and Excel are required. Preferred credentials include strong knowledge of building‑system cost efficiency, hands‑on experience with thermodynamic, electrical, and mechanical systems, and a proven aptitude for troubleshooting complex, computer‑controlled equipment. • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of college or trade‑school education. • Possess four years of experience in electrician trade or HVAC/refrigeration trade. • Maintain a City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License. • Be able to lift at least 80 lb and work at heights, including climbing and bending. • Use Microsoft Word and Excel proficiently. • Demonstrate practical experience with thermodynamic, electrical, and mechanical systems. • Exhibit strong aptitude for diagnosing complex facility issues.
