About the Role

The Environmental Technician II supports WM’s Sustainability Services onsite program by performing manual labor associated with chemical handling, lab pack duties, and drum operations. This support position focuses on both hazardous and non‑hazardous waste projects and provides additional assistance when extra personnel are required. Key responsibilities include ensuring waste types are properly segregated, labeled, and tracked while maintaining good housekeeping. The technician collects, transfers, consolidates, and repackages solid, liquid, and sludge materials, and performs tasks such as drum bulking, trash sorting, and truck loading. Safety participation, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to ISO 14001/9001 and EPA/OSHA/DOT regulations are required. • Segregate, label, and package hazardous and non‑hazardous waste according to regulations. • Collect, transfer, consolidate, and repackage solid, liquid, and sludge materials. • Perform labor‑intensive tasks such as drum bulking, trash sorting, and truck loading. • Support 90‑Day Hazardous Waste Pad operations when needed. • Follow safety procedures, wear required PPE, and report unsafe conditions immediately. • Maintain compliance with EPA, OSHA, DOT, and ISO 14001/9001 standards. • Identify waste‑reduction best practices to improve efficiency and generate cost savings. • Provide guidance to less‑experienced technicians as needed.

What You Bring

Applicants need an Associate’s degree (or a high school diploma combined with two years of relevant experience). A 24‑hour HAZWOPER certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and RCRA/DOT regulatory experience is preferred. The role demands the ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong motor coordination and the capacity to lift objects up to 50 lb.
