About the Role
The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station, performing tasks such as transferring, spreading, covering, loading, and compacting waste or soil in an efficient and safe manner. The role includes conducting equipment inspections, operating various machines such as forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front‑end loaders, monitoring waste for unacceptable materials, performing minor servicing, completing condition reports, and maintaining a clean and organized shop at the end of each shift. • Perform pre‑ and post‑operation equipment inspections, ensuring windows, lights, mirrors, and rear‑view cameras are clean • Safely operate forklift, excavator, bulldozer, front‑end loader, and other equipment following proper safety standards • Monitor waste streams for evidence of unacceptable material and report issues • Continuously check equipment condition, clean tracks or wheels, and perform minor service as needed • Document minor service, complete Equipment Condition Reports, and report necessary repairs to supervisor • Maintain a clean, serviced, and properly stored shop at the completion of each shift • Provide courteous, professional customer service with honesty and cooperation • Adhere to company policies, safety standards, and work schedules without taking inappropriate risks
