About the Role
The Senior Electrical Engineer (Generation) provides subject‑matter technical support and leadership for multi‑site due‑diligence, investigation, remediation, permitting, design, development and construction of utility, industrial and commercial scale power projects. The role involves collecting and analyzing site data, blueprints, GIS and equipment specifications to develop procurement packages and ensure designs meet IEEE, NESC, ANSI, NCEC and NERC standards. The engineer applies high‑level electrical engineering techniques to improve infrastructure during concept, preliminary, final design, procurement, construction and operation phases, including investigations of substation layouts, grounding, lightning protection and power plants. Responsibilities include developing construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans, and coordinating with owners, consultants and clients to update infrastructure layouts. The position oversees the implementation of future‑ready technologies, monitoring devices, cabling, conduit and trenching strategies, and ensures safety and functionality for end‑users and systems. Leadership duties cover managing large‑scale projects, defining deliverables, monitoring budgets, tracking hours and expenses, supervising subcontractors and contract work, and delivering technical reports and presentations to stakeholders. The engineer mentors staff, maintains high quality and responsiveness to client requirements, stays current with electrical engineering practices, and adheres to WSP’s Code of Conduct and health‑safety policies. • Lead design and construction of transmission and distribution substations and related power infrastructure. • Collect, compile, and analyze site, survey, GIS and equipment data to develop procurement packages and ensure compliance with IEEE, NESC, ANSI, NCEC and NERC standards. • Review and approve electrical infrastructure design plans for mid‑level and complex projects, ensuring code and regulatory compliance. • Conduct investigations and inspections of existing and proposed sites, including grounding grids, lightning protection and substation layouts. • Develop construction specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans, and coordinate with owners, consultants and clients. • Implement future‑ready technologies, monitoring devices, cabling, conduit and trenching designs to enhance system safety and functionality. • Manage project budgets, track hours and expenses, and supervise subcontractors and contract staff. • Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research findings, recommendations and risk mitigation strategies. • Mentor junior engineers and support professional development of the team. • Ensure adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct, health‑safety policies and ethical standards.

What You Bring
The position demands advanced education, professional licensure and extensive experience designing capital projects in power generation, transmission or distribution, as well as strong proficiency with industry‑standard design software and codes. • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred). • Professional Engineer (PE) license; multi‑state license preferred. • 10+ years of experience designing capital projects in power generation, transmission or distribution. • Proficiency with electrical design software (CADD, ETAP, Aspen, CAPE, WIN IGS, Inventor, AutoCADD electrical). • Strong knowledge of engineering codes, standards, permits and regulatory requirements. • Excellent technical writing, communication and interpersonal skills. • Proven ability to lead large‑scale projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams. • OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training and basic First Aid/CPR preferred.
