About the Role

• Support design and analysis of stream, river, and wetland restoration projects. • Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to create designs, plan sets, and develop surface models. • Perform hydraulic and hydrologic analyses with HEC‑RAS for design and permitting. • Generate design surfaces and quantity take‑offs for earthwork cost estimating and bid schedules. • Assist permit specialists in calculating impacts to natural resources. • Draft technical specifications and special provisions per state or federal standards (e.g., NCDOT, GDOT, USACE). • Write technical narratives that explain design basis and engineering analysis results. • Provide construction oversight and communicate decisions with contractors and clients. • Track project schedules, deliver designs on time and within budget, and collaborate with the project team. • Deliver engineering expertise to federal, state, local agencies, tribal entities, nonprofits, and private landowners. • Ensure all work follows NV5 handbook, policies, and inclusivity guidelines.

What You Bring

The Ecological Restoration Group is hiring a full‑time, remote Ecological Restoration Engineer with at least two years of experience in river, stream, or wetland projects. The engineer will work on a multi‑disciplinary design team, report to the Ecological Restoration Director, and be responsible for technical design, analysis, permitting support, and construction oversight of restoration projects. While most work is remote, the role may require field activities in outdoor environments and occasional travel, weekend, overtime, or overnight work. Candidates must be able to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing for long periods, and lifting up to 30‑50 pounds. • Bachelor’s degree in ecological engineering, civil engineering, or related field. • Minimum two years of professional experience, with at least one year on water‑resources projects. • Engineer‑In‑Training (EIT) status with goal to obtain PE licensure within one year. • Proficiency in hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, especially HEC‑RAS. • Advanced skill in AutoCAD Civil 3D for drafting, surface modeling, and grading. • Hands‑on experience collecting field data (site assessments, pebble counts, channel morphology, vegetation mapping) using total stations or RTK devices. • Strong technical writing and communication abilities. • Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal supervision. • Excellent organizational, analytical, and detail‑oriented work habits. • Master’s degree in ecological engineering, restoration, fluvial geomorphology, or river science. • Professional Engineering (PE) license. • Experience in applied fluvial geomorphology through education or consulting.
