About the Role
HDR's Traffic Engineer provides engineering, design, and production support for traffic engineering projects and works closely with Senior Project Engineers and Project Managers to develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for signing, striping, traffic signals, illumination, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and traffic control plans for various state and local agencies. The role also involves supporting Project Engineers in traffic studies, including impact analyses, corridor studies, interchange access justification reports, signal timing plans, and both microscopic and macroscopic simulation modeling, while authoring technical reports and memoranda. Additionally, the engineer may serve as a project manager or task leader for transportation planning, traffic analysis, data analytics, project development, and community planning, collaborating with the Traffic Operations Manager, Transportation Business Group Manager, Program Manager, Section Managers, and multiple Project Managers for project reviews, and providing guidance to junior engineers and technical staff as needed. • Deliver engineering and design support for traffic projects. • Create plans, specs, and estimates for signage, striping, signals, illumination, and ITS. • Perform traffic impact, corridor, and interchange access studies. • Develop signal timing and conduct microscopic/macroscopic simulations. • Write technical reports and memoranda. • Lead project management tasks for transportation planning and data analytics. • Coordinate project reviews with senior managers and multiple project teams. • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff.

What You Bring
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and at least six months of experience in traffic engineering, which may include professional or internship work covering traffic impact analysis, signal analysis and design, and proficiency with Synchro, VISSIM, SignCAD, OpenRoads, and MicroStation. Both licensed and unlicensed candidates are considered, and a Professional Engineer license is not a prerequisite. All HDR positions in the US are subject to background checks and/or pre‑employment drug testing. • Hold a B.S. in Civil Engineering (or related) with 6+ months traffic engineering experience. • Proficient in Synchro, VISSIM, SignCAD, OpenRoads, and MicroStation. • Open to candidates with or without a PE license. • Subject to background checks and pre‑employment drug testing.
