About the Role

The position involves devising, selecting, setting up, and operating electronic instrumentation and related electromechanical or electrohydraulic apparatus for operational and environmental testing of mechanical, structural, or electrical equipment. The technician translates test data for engineering personnel to support design and evaluation decisions. Key responsibilities include sketching, building, or modifying jigs, fixtures, and instruments, performing preventive and corrective maintenance, installing equipment in test chambers, operating test apparatus to simulate conditions such as vibration, temperature, and pressure, and analyzing data to produce reports and graphs. The role may also involve planning test programs, using computerized testing software, and being designated as a Rocket‑Control, Environmental‑Research, or Vibration Technician. • Devises, selects, sets up, and operates electronic instrumentation for operational and environmental testing, including installation, calibration, and specification development. • Sketches, builds, or modifies jigs, fixtures, and instruments, and verifies their dimensional and functional acceptability. • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on test apparatus and peripheral equipment. • Installs or directs installation of units in test chambers or facilities. • Operates test apparatus during cycles to produce, regulate, and record simulated conditions such as vibration, stress, temperature, humidity, pressure, altitude, and acceleration. • Analyzes and converts test data using mathematical formulas, prepares graphs and written reports. • May plan test programs. • May use computerized equipment and software to perform testing and generate graphs.

Qualifications require at least a high school diploma or equivalent, relevant experience, and knowledge of common concepts, practices, and procedures in the field. The employee works under immediate supervision, follows established guidelines, and typically reports to a manager. Physical demands include standing (65% of the time), walking (15%), and sitting (20%), as well as lifting and carrying up to 30 lb, pushing and pulling 70 ft‑lb, and occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering. • May be designated as Rocket‑Control Technician, Environmental‑Research Test Technician, or Vibration Technician.
