About the Role
The Driver Helper works alongside the Route Driver to assist in collecting waste and recyclable materials from residential and commercial customers. All tasks are performed in compliance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal laws. The helper must immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or service issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch, attend required training and meetings, and assist with loading containers manually or with equipment. Duties also include operating hoisting devices, supporting the driver during backing maneuvers, and communicating customer requests or service interruptions as needed. • Follow WM Safety, Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and all applicable laws. • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents, or property damage immediately. • Attend all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings. • Load and empty residential or commercial containers manually or with equipment. • Operate hoisting devices to lift bins or containers into the truck hopper. • Assist the driver with backing maneuvers while on route. • Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, heavy receptacles, or safety hazards. • Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch. • Perform duties as scheduled and assist other drivers to meet customer needs.
