About the Role

The Designer – Transmission Line joins QISG’s transmission line teams, which are essential for safe, reliable and efficient power delivery across communities. The teams design, build, maintain and upgrade high‑voltage transmission infrastructure that underpins the electric grid, employing both traditional methods and the latest industry innovations to deliver sustainable, cost‑effective solutions. This position reports to a Lead Designer and supports transmission line projects across the QISG platform. • Work on design aspects from project inception to completion on various transmission line projects. • Utilize 3D design software for transmission line design. • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of work. • Research information in catalogs, specifications, corporate standards, or other reference material. • Learn and properly use the document management system and suggest improvements. • Apply corporate standard engineering practices. • Identify project‑related problems and propose solutions to the responsible party. • Travel out of town for short periods as required by projects and assignments. • Communicate effectively with co‑workers.

What You Bring

The Designer, Transmission will perform routine transmission line design assignments, requiring knowledge of basic design techniques and procedures. The role demands thorough familiarity with design standards, materials and CAD software, and prefers experience with 3‑D design packages. • Demonstrate knowledge of quality control procedures to ensure the highest standards of workmanship. • Associates degree in Drafting & Design is preferred. • Experience in drafting disciplines with a background in civil/structural or transmission design is strongly preferred. • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the electric utility industry performing detailed CAD/design for high‑voltage transmission line projects. • Experience with 3D design software (AutoCAD Inventor, SDS, etc.) is preferred. • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and email software. • Extensive knowledge of various CADD programs. • Basic knowledge of major components of transmission lines. • Effective oral and written communication skills. • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. • Capable of handling ambiguity, working independently, managing multiple tasks and setting priorities in a complex environment.
