About the Role
The Manager, Special Waste ES is responsible for managing internal and external customers to keep Republic Services facilities in compliance with waste acceptance regulations and company standards. This role coordinates the special waste approvals team, Customer Service, Generators, Field/Site Services, and the sales organization to ensure only permitted waste is accepted. The manager also oversees corporate waste approvals initiatives and implements waste approval processes. Key duties include reviewing and approving waste profiles, ensuring that facilities do not accept waste prohibited by federal, state, or local regulations, operating permits, or waste analysis plans. The manager partners with safety, environmental compliance, operations, and sales teams to develop solutions that meet business and compliance goals, and leads routine alignment meetings across these functions. They also develop and implement site-specific Waste Approvals Programs, support training, and monitor the effectiveness of processes. The manager leads a team of specialists who perform technical reviews of environmental and characterization data, such as Generator Waste Profile Sheets and Supplement Forms, while staying current on regulatory changes. They provide technical and regulatory support to sales, operations, and customers, handle manifest discrepancies, third‑party outbound waste, and audit issues, and collaborate with IT to enhance electronic profiling and manifesting systems. • Review and approve waste profiles to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and site‑specific regulations. • Coordinate with customer service, sales, safety, environmental compliance, and operations to develop compliant waste disposal solutions. • Lead alignment meetings and develop site‑specific Waste Approvals Programs, including training and implementation for new facilities. • Manage the Special Waste approvals team, providing technical reviews of generator waste data and ensuring accurate manifesting. • Monitor regulatory changes and advise internal and external stakeholders on technical and regulatory waste issues. • Liaise with IT to enhance electronic profiling, software management, and customer interface tools. • Coach and develop team members, driving performance improvements and maintaining service level standards.

What You Bring
Qualifications include extensive knowledge of RCRA, TSCA, DOT, and state/local special waste regulations, strong chemistry background, and the ability to analyze laboratory data against acceptance standards. Strong written, oral, and critical‑thinking communication skills, team orientation, and the ability to operate in a fast‑paced environment are required, along with proven management and organizational abilities. Preferred credentials are a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification and McCoy’s RCRA training. The minimum requirements call for 4‑7 years of experience in solid waste, hazardous waste, or related environmental fields, demonstrated leadership, and a solid understanding of industrial and hazardous waste regulations. Experience in customer‑service‑oriented business or technical sales is also valued.
