About the Role
The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for ensuring efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems at the assigned facility. This role develops and performs necessary maintenance and operational tasks to maximize system life and reliability. In many locations the engineer operates without an on‑site Chief Engineer and may be the sole engineer, with supervision duties varying by building size and complexity. Daily duties involve overseeing building systems, coordinating with contractors, managing inventory, and responding promptly to emergencies such as fire, evacuation, or equipment failures. The engineer must comply with applicable codes, regulations, and company directives while maintaining safe work practices. Regular reporting to management and participation in required safety training are also essential. • Conduct daily operations and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. • Supervise and assign tasks to maintenance staff as needed. • Perform preventive maintenance such as filter changes, motor lubrication, lamp replacement, belt inspection, bearing replacement, and shaft alignment. • Recommend ongoing improvements to the preventive maintenance program. • Develop and maintain building‑specific maintenance procedures. • Coordinate maintenance work with external contractors and technicians. • Manage stock and inventory control. • Respond immediately to emergencies (fire, evacuation, equipment failure) and customer concerns. • Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and company directives while practicing safe work habits. • Compile and submit monthly reports to keep management informed of building operations. • Adhere to the company uniform dress code and maintain a neat appearance on and off site. • Solve problems and perform analysis. • Maintain appropriate trade licenses or permits (e.g., Journeyman/Master Electrician, City Licenses, Operator’s License, Steam Engineer License). • Frequently crouch, reach, and bend to install or move equipment. • Move between departments, floors, and properties to facilitate work.

What You Bring
Key competencies include strong oral and written communication, organizational and technical proficiency, effective decision‑making, and problem‑solving abilities. Required education is a high school diploma or GED, with preference for apprenticeship or trade school graduation. Candidates should have at least five years of relevant trade experience operating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in commercial properties. The position operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment and may require travel between properties in various weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of up to 50 lb, climbing, stooping, and movement across floors to perform installations and repairs. A valid driver’s license and basic computer skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word are required. • Complete required Cushman & Wakefield safety training annually. • Demonstrate communication proficiency (oral and written). • Exhibit strong organizational skills. • Apply technical proficiency in building systems. • Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent. • Prefer graduation from an apprenticeship program or trade school. • Possess a valid universal certification for CFC/HFC refrigerants (EPA Section 608). • Hold a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. • Use basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel, and Word. • Experience with operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, boilers, heaters, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, and water systems. • Knowledge of energy management systems and techniques. • Thorough understanding of all building systems operations, maintenance, and repair. • Ability to stoop, stand, climb, and lift at least 50 lb safely. • Speak clearly for effective communication. • Read and comprehend oral and written information. • Utilize vision to read printed material, drawings, and schematics.
