What You Bring
PSE's Engineering Operations team is seeking qualified candidates for an open Engineer III – Substation Physical Design position. Specific details regarding work arrangements will be discussed further during the interview process. The position requires extensive experience developing complex engineering plans, designs, specifications, standards, evaluations, and studies for new and existing substations. Assignments include design of 230 kV, 115 kV, and 12.5 kV open‑air substations, 115 kV gas‑insulated switchgear, above‑ground equipment layout, below‑ground conduit, and grounding design. Candidates must be well‑versed in PSE standards, IEEE, NEC, NESC, and other industry codes, and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Understanding of electrical substation assembly and safe design practices is a plus. The engineer should have a broad range of experience in electrical assembly design and construction, often addressing complex issues that require interpretation of requirements, analytical techniques, and non‑standard solutions. Flexibility to adapt to shifting budgets and priorities, resilience, optimism, and the ability to foster teamwork are essential attributes. • Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil, or related engineering field. • Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, field work, cost estimating, and scheduling (typically 5+ years). • Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Experience working in the utility industry. • Familiarity with codes and equipment used in design and operation of utility systems. • Possession of a Professional Engineering license. • Knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices. • Experience on complex engineering projects.
