About the Role

The Sustainability Advisor develops and implements recycling and diversion programs, working directly with the company's customer base through telephone calls, onsite visits, events, trade shows, and educational outreach to improve the quality of materials received at recycling centers. Key duties include monitoring existing recycling programs, coordinating collection schedules with operations, creating food waste outreach initiatives, delivering classroom presentations, producing communications to reduce contamination, conducting waste audits and characterization studies, analyzing data and trends, researching grant opportunities, and building community relationships. • Monitor and evaluate recycling programs and recommend improvements. • Coordinate customer collection schedules with Operations. • Develop and implement food waste recycling outreach programs and materials. • Deliver classroom presentations and respond to recycling inquiries. • Communicate with customers to eliminate contamination in recycling waste. • Produce newsletters, reports, brochures, ads, slide shows, and other publications. • Conduct commercial waste audits and recommend service levels. • Perform waste characterization studies and provide written reports. • Compile and analyze food waste tonnage data and outreach activity statistics. • Research and assist in securing grants and funding for recycling projects. • Build relationships and increase visibility through community events and trade shows. • Conduct proactive phone outreach to schedule appointments with decision‑makers. • Utilize tracking tools to document activities and build customer profiles. • Organize tours of transfer stations, landfills, or other facilities.

What You Bring

Preferred qualifications encompass experience in communication and outreach, website and social media management, ability to manage multiple projects, strong time‑management and deadline adherence, relationship‑building skills, excellent verbal and written communication, quick learning with follow‑through, self‑motivation, high confidentiality, and a service‑oriented mindset. Minimum requirements are two years of customer‑facing experience and a valid driver’s license. • Experience in communication, business/economic, or professional outreach activities. • Experience managing websites and using social media. • Ability to organize and manage multiple concurrent projects. • Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines. • Ability to motivate volunteers and build effective relationships with staff, officials, and the public. • Excellent communication, active listening, and presentation skills. • Quick grasp of concepts with strong follow‑through. • Self‑motivation, strong work ethic, and high confidentiality. • Service‑oriented mindset. • Minimum 2 years of customer‑facing experience identifying and addressing needs. • Valid driver’s license.
