About the Role

The engineer will support mission, simulation, and testing activities, including off‑nominal hours, weekends, and holidays as needed, and may be required to travel for business purposes. Responsibilities include participating in design working groups, developing critical design review inputs, estimating material and labor costs, and presenting designs to contract management and the NASA customer. Implementation duties involve executing approved designs, developing project schedules, providing status updates, and coordinating with integration, maintenance, and other stakeholders. The role also requires initiating procurement requests, tracking material deliveries, and generating or updating configuration management documents such as cabinet drawings, floor plans, cable lists, cross‑connect wires, engineering instructions, and subsystem readiness tests. • Design, develop, sustain, and maintain engineering documentation and change instructions for MCC, MTC, and SVMF voice, video, and timing systems. • Support design, testing, and deployment of video, voice, and timing systems. • Respond to and resolve technical issues. • Report progress, issues, and impediments. • Integrate engineering hardware into MCC, MTC, and SVMF environments. • Translate NASA operational concepts into engineering design details. • Identify hardware components, create parts lists, and generate procurement requests. • Contribute to project planning and provide schedule inputs. • Communicate effectively with internal team members and NASA customers. • Generate technical implementation instructions. • Coordinate with team leader and MSOC management as needed. • Comply with MSOC contract, NASA/JSC/MSD policies, and procedures. • Propose improvements to engineering processes.

What You Bring

The position demands strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and a proactive attitude toward continuous skill development and problem solving. Candidates should be team‑oriented, self‑motivated, and capable of translating customer requirements into detailed engineering solutions. A bachelor's degree in electrical, computer, mechanical engineering, information technology, engineering technology, or a related field is required, while a master’s degree and certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP or CTS/CompTIA are advantageous. The successful applicant will possess a solid understanding of voice, video, and timing systems and be familiar with IP‑based and TDM architectures, audio codecs, telephony protocols, and video interface standards. • BS in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical Engineering, IT, Engineering Technology, or related field. • Understand voice, video, and timing systems. • 3+ years experience in these systems (preferred). • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills. • Excellent communication of technical details to peers and management. • Master’s degree in relevant engineering or IT discipline (plus). • Cisco CCNA or CCNP certification (highly desirable). • CTS or CompTIA certification (beneficial). • Ability to work autonomously and provide status updates. • Experience resolving system anomalies during mission‑critical operations. • Familiarity with IP‑based voice and video architectures. • Familiarity with TDM voice systems. • Knowledge of audio codecs (G.711, G.729). • Understanding of telephony protocols (Loop/Ground Start, SIP, Asterisk). • Knowledge of telecommunications carrier interfaces (TDM, IP). • Experience with mission audio recorder systems. • Experience with analog/digital audio conversion and distribution equipment. • Familiarity with IP video streaming formats and decoding. • Knowledge of video interface types (HDMI, SD‑SDI, HD‑SDI) and resolutions (720p, 1080p, 4K/UHD).
