About the Role

Reporting to the Project Leads and the Infrastructure Business Unit Environmental Lead, the Environmental Manager will implement and support environmental strategy and systems to ensure exemplary standards across operations. The role involves improving performance, maintaining compliance with management systems, and driving continual improvement, while providing a flexible/hybrid working arrangement that requires on‑site presence three to four days a week. • Provide environmental input from planning to completion, ensuring standards are met and taking corrective action when necessary. • Support the implementation of Group and Business Unit Environmental Strategies and develop scheme‑specific strategies. • Drive the environmental agenda, contribute to senior leadership, and assist clients with statutory requirements and sustainability objectives such as BREEAM. • Implement environmental management systems aligned with client needs, company strategy, and legislative requirements. • Monitor environmental performance and compliance through audits, inspections, and risk‑assessment reviews. • Engage with key stakeholders—including clients, supply‑chain partners, and regulatory bodies—throughout the project lifecycle. • Lead or support environmental incident management, liaise with regulators, and deliver training or best‑practice guidance as required. • Assist with onboarding, manage supply‑chain partners, and support environmental management improvement initiatives within Galliford Try.

What You Bring

The successful candidate will have a proven record of environmental compliance on construction or infrastructure projects, strong leadership and communication skills, and a proactive, solution‑oriented approach. Experience with digital tools such as GIS and Office 365, ISO 14001 lead auditor qualification, and relevant professional memberships (IEMA, CIWEM, IES) are preferred, alongside training in investigation and familiarity with CEQUAAL/BREEAM. • Proven track record in environmental compliance on construction or infrastructure projects. • Strong leadership ability to inspire teams, influence change, and communicate effectively at all organisational levels. • Solution‑oriented mindset with excellent communication skills and proactive, self‑motivated decision‑making. • Experience with digital systems such as GIS and Office 365; ISO 14001 Lead Auditor qualification preferred. • Training in investigation, experience with CEQUAAL/BREEAM, degree in an environmental discipline, and membership of a professional body (e.g., IEMA, CIWEM, IES).
