As an entry‑level Architectural Historian in Duluth, GA, you will join multidisciplinary teams, lead field surveys, support National Historic Preservation Act compliance, and create high‑quality technical documentation. This role offers hands‑on experience, meaningful impact on preservation decisions, and growth with a global environmental consulting leader. Historic places tell the story of who we are, and protecting them requires thoughtful research, careful documentation, and strong regulatory insight. In this role you will ensure historic properties are correctly identified, evaluated, and considered in federal and state decision‑making, supporting Section 106 compliance and balancing development with preservation across diverse landscapes. • Lead and support surveys of above‑ground historic properties across varied geographic regions. • Contribute to National Register of Historic Places eligibility evaluations. • Assess project effects on historic resources under federal and state regulations. • Produce clear, defensible documentation for permitting and regulatory decisions. • Represent ERM professionally while field‑working and engaging with the public. • Plan, develop, and execute historic property surveys. • Document and photograph buildings, structures, and other historic resources. • Prepare report sections describing survey methods, findings, and analysis. • Complete state‑specific documentation forms and assist with project planning logistics. • Support assessments of effects under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. • Perform general administrative tasks supporting day‑to‑day office operations.

What You Bring

We are looking for a detail‑oriented, curious professional who enjoys both fieldwork and technical writing, can work independently or as part of a team, and is motivated to build expertise in cultural resource work within a fast‑paced consulting environment. • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or related field (M.S. preferred). • Meet Secretary of the Interior’s standards for professional qualifications in Architectural History or Historic Architecture. • 0–2 years experience in survey and evaluation of historic architectural resources. • Strong knowledge of architectural styles, materials, and photo documentation techniques. • Excellent writing skills with high attention to QA/QC standards. • Understanding of visual Area of Potential Effects (APE) and related permitting standards. • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather, on varied terrain, and travel up to 75% field time. • Willingness to work weekends and exceed 40 hours per week when required. • Compliance with corporate Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and periodic drug testing. • Basic knowledge of architectural survey requirements for federal and state agencies (e.g., USACE, NPS, FERC). • Experience with digital SLR cameras, GIS, graphics, and database tools. • Ability to drive and navigate in rural environments.
