About the Role
As a retention expert you will split your time between inbound and outbound calls, resolving issues and securing updated service level agreements using new outreach technology. You will learn negotiation techniques to save, secure, and convert customers who wish to cancel, while also upselling and closing new business when opportunities arise. The Account Associate I serves as a key point of contact for WM’s small/medium business customers. Working in a team‑based queue, you will focus on retaining and growing the book of business through inbound call handling and proactive outreach, preventing cancellations and securing updated contracts. Success depends on effective retention strategies, negotiation skills, and alignment with WM’s growth objectives. • Apply change management processes to support sales activities. • Allocate time strategically between retention and acquisition goals. • Explore mutually beneficial sales agreements for customer acceptance. • Navigate multiple systems and sales tools while maintaining accurate documentation. • Analyze reports and perform general administrative duties as needed.

What You Bring
Bilingual candidates are preferred; the role requires fluency in speaking, reading, and writing Spanish to be qualified. This is a hybrid position with a 50% in‑office expectation at our Tupelo office (499 South Gloster, Ste B2). Candidates must be local and will work Monday through Friday, 7 am to 4 pm. The ideal candidate is highly organized, capable of multitasking, loves using the phone, and is driven to genuinely help customers. You will act as a customer champion, listening to needs and delivering superior service. Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of business‑to‑business account management, inside sales, or customer service experience that involves a sales component. A bilingual skill set with fluency in Spanish is preferred. Physical demands involve repetitive motions, eye/hand/foot coordination, sitting, talking, and hearing. The work environment alternates between home and a professional office setting, using standard office equipment. The role may require travel by air; candidates must possess a REAL ID or an acceptable TSA‑approved alternative. • Communicate compellingly to influence customer decisions. • Use WM sales productivity software (e.g., Salesforce) accurately and consistently. • Meet required qualifications: High School Diploma/GED and one year of B2B account management/inside sales/customer service with a sales component. • Preferred qualification: Fluency in reading, speaking, and writing Spanish.
