About the Role

You will work within our safety‑critical FPGA development team, covering the full design lifecycle from requirements elicitation to equipment testing. The team follows agile SCRUM methods and employs state‑of‑the‑art toolsets to create high‑integrity FPGA applications. Training will be provided to equip you with the skills needed to develop requirements, architectures, HDL code, tests and supporting infrastructure for nuclear propulsion plant protection and monitoring. In the safety‑critical development lifecycle you will develop equipment‑level requirements, design and verify VHDL code, and support hardware‑based testing of your FPGA designs. You will author and review design documentation, liaise with software, hardware, systems and verification teams, and help improve development processes and product quality. • Develop and verify VHDL code for safety‑critical FPGA designs • Create and manage requirements from equipment to implementation level • Support hardware‑based testing and author design documentation • Collaborate with software, hardware, systems and verification teams • Contribute to process improvement and product quality • Produce clear, concise technical reports

What You Bring

We seek candidates who place safety first, act with integrity and keep solutions simple. A degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline (or equivalent experience) and proven VHDL design and verification experience are essential. Strong technical reporting skills are required, and familiarity with languages such as SystemVerilog, TCL or Python, as well as tools like QuestaSim, ModelSim, PropCheck, FormalPro, Synplify Pro, DOORS, Azure DevOps and Git, is beneficial. Knowledge of safety standards (IEC 61513, IEC 62566, IEC 26262, DO‑254) and verification techniques (UVM, constrained random testing, formal verification) is advantageous. Rolls‑Royce is an equal‑opportunity employer committed to diversity, inclusion and a culture of caring and belonging. Applicants must obtain a Security Check clearance, which the company will support, and must be a UK national or, where MoD‑approved, a dual national. Depending on location, candidates may be asked to complete online cognitive and behavioural assessments as part of the selection process. • Hold a degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science or related field • Demonstrated experience designing and verifying VHDL designs • Familiarity with tools such as QuestaSim/ModelSim, PropCheck, FormalPro, Synplify Pro, DOORS, Azure DevOps and Git • Knowledge of safety standards (IEC 61513, IEC 62566, IEC 26262, DO‑254) and verification techniques (UVM, constrained random testing, formal verification) • Security Check clearance support; UK or MoD‑approved dual nationality required
