About the Role

The Substation Designer will lead detailed CAD design of high‑voltage substations and switchyards, creating general arrangement drawings, site layouts, sections, elevations, bus and conductor calculations, ground grids, cable trays, lighting, lightning protection, control building layouts, and related bill of materials. The role also supports protection and control design packages, develops P&C single‑line and three‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts, and coordinates with renewable energy collector, civil, structural, and transmission line teams. • Lead detailed CAD design of high‑voltage substations and switchyards. • Create general arrangement drawings, site layouts, sections/elevations, bus and conductor calculations, ground grids, cable trays, lighting, lightning protection, control building layouts, and bill of materials. • Develop protection and control design packages including P&C single‑line and three‑line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts. • Coordinate with renewable energy collector, civil, structural, and transmission line teams. • Interface with internal and external stakeholders (engineers, designers, drafters, project managers) to exceed client expectations. • Support development of standards, process optimizations, and execution plans.

RRC is seeking a talented Substation Designer to help build the future of U.S. and Canada energy production. The role is remote, based in Round Rock, TX, and is a full‑time position at a multi‑disciplinary engineering firm that specializes in renewable energy projects across the United States. The position requires a diploma or bachelor’s degree in drafting or electrical design and at least five years of experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, or AutoCAD Map3D in power delivery, renewable energy, or power generation. Strong CAD skills, proficiency with layers, blocks, XREFs, coordinate systems, annotations, and dimensioning, and compliance with industry drafting standards are essential. Candidates must be authorized for full‑time work in Canada, possess excellent time‑management, organization, MS Office, and communication skills, and be able to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines. • Hold a diploma or bachelor's degree in drafting/electrical design. • Possess 5+ years of experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, or AutoCAD Map3D in power delivery or renewable energy. • Demonstrate strong CAD skills: layers, blocks, XREFs, coordinate systems, annotations, dimensioning, and adherence to drafting standards. • Authorized for full‑time work in Canada. • Exhibit excellent time‑management, organization, MS Office proficiency, and communication abilities. • Able to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines. • 3D modeling experience (preferred). • Familiarity with PVcase, PVCAD, renewable energy utilities, battery storage, and industry codes (ANSI/IEEE, NESC, NEC, CSA) (preferred).
