About the Role

Key responsibilities include leading planning policy initiatives such as local plan development, strategic growth studies, and infrastructure strategies; providing line management and mentorship to junior team members; coordinating multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver projects on budget and schedule; and overseeing quality assurance and health‑ and‑safety compliance. • Lead and deliver planning policy projects, including local plans, strategic growth studies, and infrastructure strategies. • Provide line management, mentorship, and development for junior planners. • Coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams to ensure projects meet budget and timeline targets. • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders. • Represent AECOM at conferences, networking events, and client meetings. • Oversee quality assurance, health and safety, and deliverables of the planning policy team. • Drive business development by nurturing client relationships and preparing commercial tenders.

What You Bring

The company is seeking an Associate Director in planning policy to manage a growing portfolio of projects. The role will be based in one of several UK offices with full hybrid working support and can be offered on a full‑time or part‑time basis to suit individual circumstances. Candidates must have significant experience leading planning policy and strategy development in a consultancy or public‑sector setting, strong client‑focused interpersonal skills, existing relationships with local authorities, and a business‑development mindset. A degree in Town Planning (or related) and membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent) are required, along with excellent report‑writing and communication abilities. • Hold a degree in Town Planning (or related) and RTPI (or equivalent) membership. • Demonstrate significant consultancy or public‑sector experience in planning policy and strategy. • Exhibit strong communication, report‑writing, and initiative under pressure.
