About the Role

The Senior Superintendent I role at Mortenson involves coordinating project site activities and supervising on‑site work teams for multiple or large, complex construction projects. The incumbent must interact professionally with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, maintaining flexibility, resourcefulness, and confidentiality. Anticipating problems and delivering creative solutions are essential to success. Key responsibilities include managing overall construction activities and task assignments, while interfacing with various departments to secure materials, equipment, and inspections that support the project schedule. The superintendent works with Project Managers on budgeting, forecasting, and overseeing labor, equipment, and site resources, and reviews construction documents for completeness and constructability. They also develop and maintain project schedules, resolve design discrepancies, implement site utilization plans, select formwork systems, conduct pre‑construction planning, and supervise crews. Additionally, they coach personnel, ensure resources are available, perform performance evaluations, handle hiring and leadership development, enforce the Zero Injury Safety Program, manage labor relations, maintain stakeholder relationships, and continuously improve site logistics. • Manage overall construction activities and assign tasks • Coordinate with departments to secure materials, equipment, and inspections supporting the schedule • Collaborate with Project Managers on budgeting, forecasting, and management of labor, equipment, materials, tools, and site environment • Review construction documents for completeness and constructability • Create, review, and update project schedule and three‑week look‑ahead • Coordinate plans and specifications with engineers, resolving discrepancies • Develop and implement site utilization plan and determine crew sizes • Select appropriate formwork systems and equipment • Conduct pre‑construction planning sessions and site meetings • Supervise work crews and provide oversight • Coach, mentor, and train field personnel, foremen, and assistant superintendents • Foster a teamwork environment • Ensure crews have necessary resources and support • Provide work direction and conduct performance evaluations • Identify hiring needs and participate in hiring, performance management, and dismissals • Assign tasks to develop leadership potential and support career growth • Implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program on site • Manage open‑shop and union issues • Maintain relationships with visitors such as customers, architects, union reps, and subcontractors • Manage site logistics efficiently and suggest improvements

What You Bring

Candidates must hold an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil/Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management, or possess ten years of trade experience. A minimum of 15 years in construction, including ten years in a supervisory capacity, and experience with solar or large industrial power projects are required. The role also demands strong detail orientation, basic knowledge of construction law, intermediate Microsoft Office skills, a professional attitude, excellent customer service, the ability to interpret Mortenson policies, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel up to 100%. • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil/Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management, or 10 years trade experience • Minimum 15 years of construction experience • Minimum 10 years in a supervisory role • Experience with solar or large industrial power projects • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects • Strong detail orientation to organize and manage multiple tasks • Basic understanding of construction law and business practices • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills • Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies • Valid driver’s license • Willingness to travel up to 100 %

The base pay range for this position is $144,300 to $216,500, with higher ranges for certain locations, and the role is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
