About the Role
The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains stationary engines, air compressors, generators, motors, turbines, and steam boilers to provide utilities for buildings and industrial processes. Key tasks include reading meters and gauges, adjusting manual or automatic controls, performing visual inspections, tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing gaskets and valves, and conducting boiler tuning and efficiency testing. The engineer also records operational data, performs water treatment tests, logs maintenance actions, and may direct other workers in system‑related tasks. • Operate and maintain stationary engines, compressors, generators, turbines, and steam boilers. • Read and record meter, gauge, and flow data; adjust controls to meet safe operating ranges. • Perform routine inspections, tighten fittings, repack bearings, and replace gaskets or valves. • Conduct boiler tuning, efficiency testing, and water treatment including chemical additive dosing. • Document maintenance actions in the operators’ logbook and coordinate activities of other workers.

What You Bring
Applicants must hold at least one of the following certifications: N.A.T.E. Core Service plus Air Distribution Services Specialist or a K.A.T.E. specialty, HVAC Excellence Professional (Light Commercial Air Conditioning, Gas Heat, and Green Awareness), or UA Star HVACR Mastery. A minimum of 16 hours of continuing education each year, one year of relevant experience, and a high school diploma or equivalent are required. This position does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. This role is part of an IFM & engineering team that manages a multi‑building federal portfolio in downtown Charleston, SC. It is a union position with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE Local 465), full‑time, on‑site Monday‑Friday 8:30 AM‑5:00 PM with rotating on‑call duties, reporting to the On‑Site Supervisor. Compensation is $29.19 per hour plus health & welfare benefits and a pension, with additional perks such as company uniforms, a cell phone, laptop, and free training.
